Books are a great way to present important topics in fun and engaging ways!
Children's Books
Reaching children at an early age will change how they see the world. Instead of dirty and scary the outdoors can be fun and exciting.
Searching for the animals that are all around us is a great way to get kids interested in conservation. Our love of the outdoors is the reason we want to spread the word about conservation.
Our children’s book series, starting with Buddy Goes For A Walk, introduces important concepts to children in a fun way. Teaching them abou the plants and animals that live all around us and why they are important.
Middle School and Up Books
Once children reach middle school they are harder to reach. Creating engaging stories are not as simple as funny pictures and simple sentences. Giving this age group a reason to care is the goal of our books. We are taking the concept of Buddy Goes For A Walk and making it relatable to kids on their level.
Encouraging kids to get out and discover what animals are around them is the first step to helping them to care about their world. This age is the time to encourage engagement. Showing them what they can do and why they should care is the goal of these books.
We have several books in the works that will meet these goals. Keeping the curiosity alive and cultivating caring children goes a long way toward creating caring adults.
Adult and Reference Books
Reaching adults can be a difficult task, especially if they were not raised with access to the outdoors. For some of us that is a foreign concept.
For most of us here at AoA the outdoors was a big part of our life and still is. Hiking, camping, rafting, fishing, hunting all part of living an outdoor life. Conservation fits all of these things like a glove. Without conservation none of these activities would be as enjoyable. Hiking and camping allow us enjoy nature while having a minimal impact on the environments we are hiking through or camping in. Rafting or kayaking or canoeing or what ever your water sport choice is offers the same experience for aquatic environments. Hunting and fishing ensures there is room for all of the animals while also ensuring not too many are removed.
Stories written on the adult level may be difficult but AoA is up to the task. We are also working on a complete plant and animal reference beginning with the Appalachian Highlands. This will be a great resource for recreationist as well as critter keepers.
Buddy Goes For A Walk Series
Buddy Goes For A Walk is our first offering to the litterary world. Following a real life red eared slider named Buddy, kids will learn about the Appalachian Highlands. The plants and animals of this region are unique and rare.
Some are so rare that very little is known about them. For the first release Buddy will walk in a mountain bog, a increasingly more rare natural bog high in the Appalachian Mountains full of plants and animals found only within that ecosystem. Buddy then walks through the Shenandoah Mountains in search of Sally, the Shenandoah Samlamander, whose rarity makes her difficult to locate. The final book in the first series Buddy walks near a stream on his way home.
